Saint Kitts and Nevis High Commission, London, UK (4th February 2026) – The UK Government has confirmed that from 25 February 2026, the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) requirement will be strictly enforced for eligible travellers entering or transiting through the United Kingdom.
From that date, ETA is a legal requirement, and carriers will not board eligible visitors without valid permission to travel. Everyone wishing to travel to the UK, except British and Irish citizens, must hold valid permission before departure. Where applicable, permission to travel will be digitally linked to the traveller’s passport and must be demonstrated through one of the following:
· A valid ETA
· Other acceptable physical proof of immigration status
· A recognised exemption
Prior to 25 February 2026, eligible travellers were permitted to travel to the UK without the ETA decision having been issued, provided they could present evidence that an ETA application had been submitted and was awaiting a decision. This concession will end on 25 February 2026. From that date onward, travellers must hold an approved ETA (or other valid permission) before travelling, as evidence of a pending application will no longer be accepted for boarding.
An ETA is required for eligible passengers visiting the UK or transiting landside who:
· Do not require a visa for short stays, and
· Do not hold a valid UK immigration status prior to travel
Applying for an ETA is quick and simple using the official UK ETA app (download from Google Play or Apple App Store). Applicants must apply using the same passport they intend to travel with, as the ETA is digitally linked to that passport.
Travellers are strongly advised to apply at least three working days before travel. While most applications are processed rapidly, processing times may be longer in some cases.
Digital assistance is available via the ETA webchat, operated by UK Government officials:
· Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm (UK time)
· A webform is available outside these hours
Travellers are encouraged to plan ahead to avoid disruption and ensure compliance with the UK’s entry requirements.
