London, United Kingdom, March 08, 2026 (High Commission of Saint Christopher and Nevis) – The Right Honourable Dr Denzil Douglas, Foreign Minister, arrived last evening in London for three days of intensive multilateral and bilateral meetings.
Today, FM Douglas joined colleague Foreign Ministers and other Heads of delegation for a special retreat under the framework of the Commonwealth Foreign Ministers Meeting (CFAMM). In his intervention, Dr Douglas reminded the meeting that “as a family of 56 independent countries, the Commonwealth should not sell itself short. It must use its voice in international fora to highlight and advance the interest of Commonwealth member states, but more importantly, to lift up small and vulnerable states, like St. Kitts and Nevis.”
Dr Douglas stressed “the importance of consultation and the imperative that every voice around the Commonwealth table is considered and heard.”
The CFAMM, which is generally held in the margins of UNGA (United Nations General Assembly) was brought forward for a number of reasons, including the rapidly changing geopolitical environment and the ruptures impacting negatively on our international affairs, and national economies. It is also an opportunity to brief Foreign Ministers on the work being undertaken by the Commonwealth Secretariat as evidenced in the recently adopted Strategic Plan and the reform being considered by the Secretary General. It is hoped that Foreign Ministers will provide guidance to the Secretary General on the way forward. Dr Douglas reaffirmed St. Kitts and Nevis’s support for a more invigorated Commonwealth which is fit for purpose, and which assists member states with market access, trade and intra Commonwealth partnerships.
Foreign Minister Douglas is supported by His Excellency Kevin M. Isaac, High Commissioner, and Ms. Thouvia France, Counsellor in the London High Commission.
