Taipei, Republic of China (Taiwan), (January 14, 2026) — A third school on Saint Kitts and Nevis has formalized ties with a school in Taiwan under the sister-school program of the Embassy of Saint Christopher (Saint Kitts) and Nevis to the Republic of China (Taiwan) which launched in 2023.
At a virtual ceremony on January 8, 2026, Principal of the Dr. Denzil L. Douglas Secondary School Ms. Andreanna French and Principal of Nanshan High School Mr. Ming-Cheng Tsai signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to facilitate cultural and language exchanges.
The signing was witnessed by the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs et. al, His Excellency Edward Tao, Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Saint Kitts and Nevis and His Excellency Donya L. Francis, Ambassador of Saint Kitts and Nevis to the Republic of China (Taiwan).
Ambassador Francis asserts that sister-school programs allow the Embassy to fulfill its mandate of fostering people-to-people interaction with nationals of our allied countries, Saint Kitts and Nevis and Taiwan.
“This sister-school program is one of our Embassy’s most critical endeavors, as it not only creates an avenue for cultural and academic exchange but it builds a bridge between our two countries, allowing our high school students who may one day pursue higher education in Taiwan to have a head start in acclimatizing to life halfway across the globe,” says Ambassador Francis in stressing the importance of these initiatives.
The Embassy invites all schools on the island, public or private, to inquire about this program and get matched with a school in Taiwan.
Ambassador Francis noted, “We have a number of schools in Taiwan who have expressed great interest in this program; therefore, we need our principals and teachers at home to likewise show interest and answer the call.”
The Basseterre High School paired with Ger-Jyh Senior High School in 2023 and their program boasts successful Math and English teacher exchanges in virtual classrooms and donations of school supplies like projectors.
The Charles E. Mills Secondary School and the Dou-nan Senior High School signed an MOU in January 2024 and have also conducted activities under their sister-school agreement such as pen pal exchanges.
The Dr. Denzil L. Douglas Secondary School and Nanshan High School MOU signing ceremony featured remarks from Principal Andreanna French, Principal Ming-Cheng Tsai, Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas and Senior Education Officer Mrs. Janelle Williams-Jacobs.
Other specially invited guests attended the signing ceremony in Saint Kitts at the Dr. Denzil L. Douglas Secondary School and in Taiwan at the Nanshan High School including Embassy staff, school officials, Ministry of Education Officials, students, media, as well as online guests.
