New Delhi, India (8th April 2026) – In a moment that may rightly be described as a significant milestone in South-South cooperation, Saint Kitts and Nevis hosted the opening of its High Commission to the Republic of India in New Delhi on 7 April 2026. The ceremony marked a new chapter in the growing diplomatic relationship between Saint Kitts and Nevis and India.

Held under the auspices of The Right Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas, Minister of Foreign Affairs et al, the high-level engagement brought together representatives of the Governments of Saint Kitts and Nevis and India, as well as members of the diplomatic and consular corps and other specially invited guests. His Excellency Dr. S. Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India, attended as special guest and delivered remarks on the value of the enduring partnership between the two countries.

During his remarks, Minister Douglas emphasized the significance of the occasion, stating that the establishment of the High Commission reflects “a clear intention to move from dialogue to delivery, translating shared priorities into practical cooperation that creates meaningful opportunities for our people.”

Saint Kitts and Nevis is the first country in the Eastern Caribbean to establish a resident diplomatic mission in India and the fifth CARICOM Member State overall to do so. This therefore reflects the Government’s commitment to not only expand its relationship with India but to explore different areas of cooperation as well.

The new mission will be headed by His Excellency Gurdip Dev Bath, High Commissioner of Saint Kitts and Nevis to the Republic of India and is expected to advance the Federation’s diplomatic priorities in India, in keeping with Saint Kitts and Nevis’ broader foreign policy direction and Sustainable Island State Agenda.
